-A
native South Carolinian.
-Joined
the U. S. Army Green Berets in 1967 and served in Viet Nam where he
was highly decorated.
-Served
on State Patrol S.W.A.T. Team as team leader and commander for twenty-seven
years; 1972-1999, in addition to other routine patrol and
supervisory duties.
-Finished
first in the world in the decathlon in the International Police
Olympics in 1992.
-Now
holds the rank of Captain with the Highway Patrol and serves as the
Commander of the Special Operations Section, which includes physical
fitness, S.W.A.T., Riot Control, Recruitment, and administrative
enforcement.
-Holds
the distinction of making the most Dui arrests from all of Law
Enforcement in South Carolina.
-Attended
the FBI National Academy eleven-week course in the Fall of 1990, and
finished with a 4.0 grade point average. Additionally, while in
attendance, he set a new national record on the mile and one-half run.
This record was established from the approximate 40,000 students who
have attended the FBI National Academy over the past sixty years.
-Has
served with the Highway Patrol for thirty years; ten years as a
field supervisor and thirteen years as a Unit Commander in Patrol
Headquarters; first in seniority among Captains.
-Inducted
into the Law Enforcement Torch Run Hall of Fame in November 1992 for
his work with the Special Olympics.
-Past
President of the Special Forces Association of South Carolina and
past President of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers
Association.
-President
of Sierra Group, Inc., an International Training Firm.
-Currently
serves as chief organizer for the 1,000-mile Walk/Run for Gift of
Life, Inc., an organization founded to provide life saving surgery
for children with congenital heart disease.
